Updated for CFMU release 13

0.17 beta to 0.18 beta

Changed to accommodate introduction of the new NOP portal by CFMU

0.16 beta to 0.17 beta

Time extension to 1 July

0.15 beta to 0.16 beta

Bugfix release - fixed crash if SID/STAR endpoint in Navdata was unknown

0.14 beta to 0.15 beta

Major Enhancements

  • Again, Major Navdata update - validated for UK, Benelux, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland

Issues still open

  • Upper airways routing - closed UIR/UTA message processing. Workaround: do not file a route for FL250, as this is an unavailablelevel in many FIRs
  • Navdata: Final scrub makig good progress (see above) - 50% yet to be done

0.12 beta to 0.14 beta (build 2)

Major Enhancements

  • Major Navdata update - after lots of tedious work. Broadly up to AIRAC cycle 0812 (effective 20 Nov) for western Europe and the British Isles
  • It is now possible to specify a minimum, maxium and desired level for the route. This is useful if you prefer high altitude flights with occational dipping below the en-route altitude to avoid restrictions, instead of the usual climbs to avoid restrictions
  • Improved restriction model and improved upper airways routing
  • Error fixed: VFR destinations with manually specified exit point working again
  • Error fixed: SIDS leading directly to STAR now working correctly

Minor Enhancements

  • Build 2: fixed initial TAS for Z flight plans. Max 250kt.
  • Proper climb and descent profiles, with start-of-climb, top-of-climb, top-of-descent calculations

Issues still open

  • Upper airways routing - closed UIR/UTA message processing. Workaround: do not file a route for FL250, as this is an unavailablelevel in many FIRs
  • Navdata: Final scrub has started but not finished yet

0.11 beta to 0.12 beta (bugfix release)

Major Enhancements

  • Fixes several bugs introduced in 0.11, in particular
    • 800x600 compatible screen layout will now only be used on screens that are smaller than 700 pixels high. This prevents accidental use on 1024x768 or similar screens with a non-autohiding tool bar
    • Z flight plans now working again
    • Details pane now working again

Minor Enhancements

  • The 800x600 layout is now properly resizeable

Issues still open

  • Error in Version 0.12: VFR destination with manually specified exit point does not work properly (the VFR change is erroneusly inserted befor, not after the last waypoint). Workaround: enter the exit point as cistom VFR "STAR"
  • Error in Version 0.12: When a departure route leads directly into an arrival route with o en-route section the correct route is found, but the flight plan route is garbled. No workaround available.
  • Upper airways routing - closed UIR/UTA message processing and smarter climbs / descents
  • Navdata: Final scrub pending licenced nav data

0.9 beta to 0.11 beta

Major Enhancements

  • Trial extended to 30 November - still no official navdata deal
  • 800x600 compatible screen layout - will be used for any screen that has less than the originally resuired 1024x768 resolution - for all you LS800 users out there
  • Much faster routing algorithm (factor 10x or more) - beneficial for very long routes and where no route at the requested flight level exists
  • Experimental vertical profile view. A bit rudimentary for start of descent points. Final version will be better
  • Automatic check for new version and navdata currency (in preparation for final release)
  • Mouse-wheel zooming. The zoom in/out point is the position of the mouse pointer. This makes it a lot easier to zoom to specific points in the map
  • Note - Version 0.10 was only available for one day and introduced an error which made aircraft climb into upper airways for no good reason. This has been fixed

Minor Enhancements

  • EET calculation now improved (proper climb/descent estimates) and departure allowance

Issues still open

  • Upper airways routing - closed UIR/UTA message processing and smarter climbs / descents
  • Navdata: Final scrub pending licenced nav data

0.8 beta to 0.9 beta

Major Enhancements

  • Improved Upper Airways routing.
  • Trial extended to 31 October - still no official navdata deal

Minor Enhancements

  • Aircaft designators now can be 1-4 characters - previously insisted on 4, but many official codes with fewer characters exist
  • You can now print the FPL message and the Jeppesen FliteStar route

Issues still open

  • Navdata: Final scrub pending licenced nav data.
  • EET calculation is a bit primitive - should make departure allowance and have better climb calculations. Will be fixed in next version. No, really.

0.7 beta to 0.8 beta

Major Enhancements

  • Upper Airways now included. Intelligent decisions about when to climb and when to deviate horizontally to to avoid a restriction, based on climb and cruise speeds
  • Airways that are not available in the altitude band specified are now shown as dotted lines. This removes screen clutter and became necessary after adding upper airways. Looks quite neat
  • Alternates are now on the main screen and showing a list of airports close to the destination, sorted by distance. It only shows airports with instrument approach procedures, but you can enter any airport
  • Arrival and departure routes for popular London airfields - Blackbushe, Denham, Elstree, Fairoaks, Stapleford and White Waltham
  • Arrival and Departure routes can now (optionally) be joined or left at intermediate points. This avoids having to duplicate the intermediate routes of complicated SID/STAR systems. Example: for White Waltham, specifying one dearture route GWC-SFD-LYD-DVR is now the equivalent of four routes: GWC, GWC-SFD, GWC-SFD-LYD, and GWC-SFD-LYD-DVR

Minor Enhancements

  • Hovering over a restriction (yellow or red line) in the map now displays the CFMU error message (in addition to the airway information). You might have to zoom in closer for this to work
  • EET/xxxxnnnn specified for airway entry point when joining VFR
  • Some smaller navdata fixes
  • Removed the "Generate Route" button as it is now obsolete - Auto and Manual are now the main buttons and generate a route before entering the CFMU screen
  • Corretcted an error that could lead to the airway join point filed as departure airport

Issues still open

  • Navdata: Final scrub pending licenced nav data.
  • EET calculation is a bit primitive - should make departure allowance and have better climb calculations. Will be fixed in next version

0.6 beta to 0.7 beta

Major Enhancements

  • Custom airports and waypoints - you can now enter ZZZZ airfields and use them as departure and destination airfield. The full airfield name is filed properly in fthe flight plan using DEP/ or DEST/
  • Improved handling of parallel airways and DCTs following airways. That takes care of the "airway flip-flop" that could happen if there are two airways following the same routes.

Minor Enhancements

  • When using a callsign that is different from aircraft registration, REG/xxxx will be automatically included in the flight plan
  • The "Other Info" and "Remark" fields in the flight plan are now remembered from the last program run. So if you habitually include OPR/PVT or RMK/IFPS REROUTE ACCEPTED in your flight plan this will now be remembered.

Issues still open

  • Navdata: Waypoints around the Alps now fixed. Final scrub pending licenced nav data.

0.5 beta to 0.6 beta

Major Enhancements

  • Printable ICAO flight plan form for those who prefer paper or fax.
  • Completed help - very extensive, with details on all screens, the routing philosophy and a few routing tricks
  • Routing engine improvements fixing the only 2 reported cases of automatic routing failure. Single-point restrictions are now handled more intelligently
  • Navdata repair to some airways around the Alps make crossing into Italy easier

Minor errors and glitches resolved

  • This version should now install cleanly over previous versions
  • Added a few key DCTs to the navdata (so you don't have to)
  • The official way to represent lifejackets without any extras is J/N, but CFMU expects J/. Autoplan now generates J/ for CFMU and J/N in the FPL to paste into Homebriefing
  • Better uninstaller (not that you would want one...)
  • More SIDs and STARs in the UK.

Issues still open

  • Navdata: Waypoints around the Alps now fixed. Final scrub pending licenced nav data.

0.4 beta to 0.5 beta

Major Enhancements

  • The departure / arrival route editor now has a map that allows you to select airway entry or exit points graphically. This makes management of VFR arrivals and departures much easier - just click at potential waypoints and add them to that airport's route portfolio.
  • Zoom buttons were added to the route restrictions and to the directs. This allows you to lokate a restriction or a direct leg on the map more easily.
  • The Jeppesen FliteStar route display now has more display options, including points-oly modes for users of FliteStar VFR and Jeppesen Internet Flightplanner.

Minor errors and glitches resolved

  • Map drawing is now flicker-free and also faster on lower-end machines.
  • You can no longer create arrival or departure routes without a valid end point. A crash on loading routes without a valid end-point has also been addressed.
  • A crash in the permanent direct editor when editing directs after deleting one has been resolved.
  • You can now specify lifejackets without any lights, fluorescence etc.

Issues still open

  • Navdata: A few waypoints in lat/lon format did not match the coordinates in CFMU and were fixed. However, this remains a problem in the present version as not all waypoint coordinates could be verifyed.
  • Pressing the help button (F1) in any other dialog other than the main dialog does not work as the help files have not been completed.
  • "Off Mandatory Route" messages in the UK are not processed well - you might have to enter a manual restriction.
  • The official way to represent lifejackets without any extras is J/N, but CFMU expects J/. For the time being J/ is generated, a future version will support the official coding (J/N) and only use J/ for CFMU.

0.3 beta to 0.4 beta

Crashes / Major Errors fixed

  • Only one crash was reported and fixed. It affected routes with a user-specified exit waypoint when CFMU returned an error message trying to exclude that point.
  • A help file is now included. It describes the main user interface. Future releases will considerably expand the help file

Minor errors and glitches resolved

  • Navdata: Missing SIDs and STARs at Jersey added
  • Navdata: A few waypoints in lat/lon format did not match the coordinates in CFMU and were fixed. However, this remains a problem in the present version as not all waypoint coordinates could be verifyed

Feature enhancements

  • The main window is now resizeable
  • The route can now be displayed in a variety of forms using tabs
  • The route can now be pasted as a table into Excel or any other program that can accept tables
  • SIDs and STARs can now be selected using drop-down boxes
  • A legend is now included with the map
  • Numerous data items are now remembered for the next program run (flight levels, PIC, map position, window size)
  • An uninstaller is provided. Not that you would want one, but it is there
